Tom Browning
Biography

Tom Browning, born in Ontario, Oregon in 1949.  Tom Browning has been painting professionally since 1972.  Starting out with western and wildlife as a choice of subject matter, Tom has had a multifaceted career that has provided many incredible paintings of many different subjects and mediums.  But his love of the west has always been his biggest inspiration that has kept the western theme alive on his easel.  Now working primarily in oils, Browning feels he is creating his strongest and most meaningful work.  In 1994 Tom wrote an instructional book for Northlight entitled, "Timeless Techniques for Better Oil Paintings", which was acclaimed by many schools and painting students as one of the best ever out on the market.  since becoming a member of the Northwest Rendezvous Group in 1986, Browning has been a four time recipient of judges' merit awards, and in 1994 received an Award of Excellence from the NWR Group.  Tom is a member of the Portrait Painters Society of America, which chose him as a finalist in a 2000 competition in New York City, and has been a guest artist at the National Academy of Western Art and the Plain Air Painters of America.  In 2008, Tom was invited to participate in the Prix de West Invitational at the National Cowboy Western Heritage Museum.  At the 2009 Prix de West Show, he was given the honor of having his painting, "The Dawn of a New Day", win the Prix de West Award.  He also will be recognized with a special tile in the Edward L. Gaylord Exhibition Wing hallway, and his painting will take its rightful place in the William S. and Ann Atherton Art of the American West Gallery.  In October of 2009, Tom was invited to become the twenty second member of the Cowboy Artist's of America.  His work will be shown at their annual show at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum every October.  He currently is showing his work at Insight Gallery, Fredericksburg, TX, Legacy Gallery, Scottsdale, AZ and Wilcox Gallery, Jackson, WY.  He participates in the Prix de West, Oklahoma Cowboy Artists of America, Oklahoma and Briscoe Museum, San Antonio, TX.
